Filming starts in April, but not in Peru. Scenes that depict Lima will be filmed in St. Augustine, Florida, while mountain and rural scenes will be filmed in Puerto Rico and Ocala, Florida. Matthew Settle, Thomas Kretschmann, Sarah Wayne Callies, Annabeth Gish, Hector Elizondo, Joaquim De Almeida and Jürgen Prochnow head an international cast. The book introduced millions of readers to an appreciation of spiritual awareness and became an unprecedented publishing phenomenon that continues today. The film follows the story that was originally created and self-published by Redfield and later picked up by Warner Books. Redfield went on to write several other books aimed at making spiritual truth accessible at a
personal level. The film will follow the story of one man's spiritual journey in search of an ancient manuscript in the mountains of Peru. The book has sold over 12 million copies to date. The novel was recently listed as #18 in USA Today's 100 top-selling books of the last decade. It was on the New York Times hardcover bestsellers list for 165 weeks and was voted by New York Times readers as their all time favorite book in the category of spirituality and philosophy. In the film, Matthew Settle plays John Woodson, a restless soul who leaves his teaching position and current love affair in search of an ancient manuscript purported to be written centuries before the appearance of Christ.
