The international soccer spotlight is on Peru during September and October as the country hosts the FIFA Under-17 world championships. Tournament host cities are Lima, Chiclayo, Piura, Trujillo and Iquitos.
As the host country, Peru’s Under-17 team is participating in the FIFA tournament for the first time.

Other teams who qualified for the tournament in Peru: Australia, Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Italy, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Ghana, Mexico, Netherlands, North Korea, Turkey, United States, Uruguay and Qatar. Brazil is the defending champion, having won the 2003 title in Finland. The final match is Oct. 5 in Lima’s National Stadium. Most of the games are being televised live around the
world.
