Bush still going to Peru despite car bomb
WASHINGTON, March 21 (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush still plans to visit Peru this week despite a bombing near the U.S. Embassy in Lima that killed nine people, the White House said on Thursday.
"We've talked to the security officials on the ground and are satisfied that it will be safe for the president to travel there," said White House spokeswoman Claire Buchan.
Bush leaves on Thursday on a four-day swing through Mexico, Peru and El Salvador, with a stop first in the Texas border town of El Paso.
