Bus collisions in Peru kill 12July 26, 2002 IMA, Peru (AP) - Two buses collided Friday on a slick highway on Peru's coast and another bus slammed into them, killing at least 12 people and injuring 37, police said. The accident occurred on a curve in the Pan-American Highway near the town of Huarmey, 155 miles northwest of Lima, the capital, police spokesman Manuel Acuna said. The dead included a 7-year-old boy, he said. Survivors said two buses were heading in opposite directions on Peru's main coastal highway, which was doused by light rain, when they crashed head-on. Another bus traveling to Lima then crashed into them, Acuna said. He said the injured would be transferred by helicopter from Huarmey to hospitals in the capital. |
