Peru's Dec Tax Revenue Up 1.6% On Year; Up 11.6% For 2003

LIMA -(Dow Jones)- Peru's December tax revenues, excluding certain contributions, reached 1.881 billion soles ($1=PEN3.4619), a 1.6% rise in real terms compared with the same month a year earlier, government tax agency Sunat said Tuesday.

The agency said tax collections for the full year 2003 rose a real 11.6% to PEN21.376 billion.

It added that the tax burden represented 13% of gross domestic product in 2003.

The agency said that among those revenues in December, collections of the value-added tax, or IGV, rose a real 6.0% to PEN800 million. In full year 2003, collections of the IGV gained 10.3% to end at PEN8.458 billion.

Income tax collections in December were PEN592 million, a rise of 14.5% in real terms from December a year earlier. In full year 2003, income tax collections rose 29.7% to PEN7.972 billion.

Collections of the ISC, or the selective consumption tax, were PEN335 million in December, a decrease of 24.7% in real terms over the same month a year earlier. ISC collections fell 1.1% in the full year 2003 to PEN3.483 billion.

Sunat has merged with the customs agency, Aduanas, and is providing data for collections from both taxes and customs.

Customs revenues were PEN925 million in December, an increase of 29.6% in real terms from the same month a year earlier, the agency added.

For 2003, customs revenues rose 8.5% to end at PEN9.302 billion
