(Nov. 22, 2004) The discovery of a part of the historic Wall of Lima, built by the government of the Duque de la Palata during 1684-1686, will allow historians to expand their knowledge about the great Spanish-built wall. In its time, the wall was planned to be a circle around Lima to protect the city. The discovered section of wall is between Abancay and Lampa avenues, next
to the San Francisco convent. The discovery will change the route commonly offered by the maps of Lima. Up until now, this area was desolate and unpleasant to view.
Today a new face shows off the Lima wall. Lima's governor Luis Castaneda is opening the new wall recreational complex, which is destined to be one of the main tourist attractions in metropolitan Lima.

The two level, 25,000 square meter complex combines modern and colonial architectures. The complex can be admired driving a car, biking or walking. The illumination during the night hours is spectacular.
