The winning candidate needed a majority of 13 votes to secure victory and the result in favour of South Africa was greeted by ecstatic scenes inside Zurich's World Trade Centre when FIFA president, Sepp Blatter, announced the winner.
"I feel like a young man of 15, and the beauty of this victory is that we were dealing with highly capable competitors who made it difficult for us to forecast what the outcome would be", Mandela added. | |
